As a fine art photographer the game is to express a feeling of timelessness and meaning within the physical elements of the captured scene. In order to convey this the absence of the colours that you would expect to see can in my view help to convey some meaningful, sustainable and potentially more worthwhile uplifting effect in the viewer, much like what was felt by the photographer in the captured moment. In my view black and white photography can be used as an art form like no other especially when the emphasis of the photographer is more focused on the energy in the form of the highest possible sentiment of love and truths, void of fear and attachment, then the photograph has a good chance of lifting the viewer to a higher state of consciousness, leaving them better off because of the experience. The value of any artwork is in direct correlation to this metric, and each individual has a different response to different photographs or ‘art’ for that matter. In my view the most successful pictures are not held up by colour, place or thing and yet go some way to reveal the very soul of our existence. I am very grateful of being a fine art documentary photographer and no better place than Ireland to live, with its landscape, history and people making it a very interesting backdrop to immerse ones self in, and to express oneself in the form and texture of black and white which of course will never die.
