As a fine art black and white street photographer travelling to Prague last week opened my eyes to the possibilities hidden in plane sight happening everyday. I had no real expectations about how excited I might be to experience its historic buildings and the unique atmosphere I’d encounter while walking the city’s streets. Every morning, despite sometimes feeling a bit rusty, I set out at sunrise with my preferred camera, handheld of course, and beginning at Charles Bridge before wandering off in whichever direction caught my interest in search of what the beautiful city had to offer. The photographic experience was at times wonderful as I meet some interesting people and found some unusual timeless scenes to explore with my camera.
My lovely mum asked me what my take-home thoughts were from the trip as we waited for the Sunday roast to finish cooking on the day we arrived back from the airport.
After a moment’s contemplation, I said that before anything is matter, it exists as energy. It made me realise that what I’ve really been trying to photograph is the ‘energy feeling’—the essence that gives rise to the matter we see in the physical scene.
Later, I discovered that Einstein once lived in Prague! 🙂 Food for thought anyway..
